About C.A.N.

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE

To co-ordinate determined resistance to any attempt to ban or unfairly restrict legitimate country pursuits and to support a working, sustainable countryside.

To further this objective, CAN will:

A:  Support and promote the future of hunting with dogs.

B:  Promote opportunities for local participation in protests against government or other action that threatens rural activities.

C:  Campaign actively against animal ‘rights’ extremism.

D:  Co-operate with other organisations whose objectives and activities are allied with our own and set up a regional network to motivate, mobilise and co-ordinate support.

E:  Encourage positive and proactive initiatives to foster better understanding of country pursuits and other rural issues at local levels.

STRATEGY:

1.  Collate a list of activists and supporters who identify with our objectives and are prepared to help ensure those objectives are met.

2.  Establish a rapid and efficient internal communications system – by email, fax, telephone trees, web site, or post – to keep activists and supporters fully informed.

3.  Identify “rurally hostile” decision makers amongst MPs, SMPs, Welsh Assembly Members, MEPs, public bodies, companies, organisations and individuals.

4.  Identify, plan and co-ordinate initiatives and protests at local and regional level.

5.  Whilst legitimate rural pursuits/country sports (hunting, shooting, fishing, falconry, terrier work and coursing) are our primary focus, we will provide support and assistance to other groups or organisations working in the broader rural interest or opposing animal ‘rights’ activism when and where resources permit.

6.  All activities will be carefully planned to ensure minimum unnecessary inconvenience to or alienation of the public.

7.  Action will normally be at local/regional level but with the knowledge and support of the Central Steering Group, and local activists are asked to adhere to the campaigning guidelines and policies issued by the Central Steering Group.

8.  Activists and supporters will be encouraged to make a voluntary donation (suggested minimum £5) to help cover direct costs but all activities are voluntary and should be self-funding.  If/when resources permit, some assistance with costs of local events may be available but should be agreed in advance.

9.  Accounts will be published annually.

10. The Steering Group will provide assistance and give advice to the regional groups on campaigning issues.

11. All work and attendance will be on a voluntary, unpaid basis and Steering Group funds will be used only for direct costs such as printing and postage and to assist regional groups, where possible, with costs of ‘events’.
